THE SHAG: Who are they for AND how do you wear them?

The Shag: the signature PR cool-girl look, inspired by the 1970s

Whether it’s scrolling through insta and seeing a PR babe rocking their new ‘do, or after a glass of wine and being tempted to cut yourself some bangs in the bathroom mirror, we’re sure you’ve pondered whether or not the shag was for you. So, fear not angels, we are here to tell you the ins-and-outs of the shag.

Who is it for?

So, who can wear a shag? The answer is easy – everyone! Whether you have thick curly locks, fine straight hair, or something in between, you’re most definitely a candidate for the shag.

For our babes with curlier locks, we recommend a razor cut with heavy bangs and plenty of weight removed from the ends. Using the razor lets us add that delicious texture to add volume and definition to your curls. And by keeping your bangs on the heavier side, the weight will give your curls some control, making even the most unruly locks tameable!

For the angels with fine or straight hair, opt for a lighter, slightly more wispy fringe. This way you maintain the density of your hair through your layers, allowing you to get more root lift. As with our curly hair kweens, a heavy face frame is the signature of the shag, and can be an amazing way to frame your face.

Great, so now you know you need a shag (if you don’t already have one!) but how the heck do you make it look salon-fresh in between visits?

How to style:

Curly hair bbs: scrunch in a combo of the Oway Curly Hair Potion and Glossy Nectar. Once you have scrunched your product in, we recommend attaching your diffuser to your hair dryer and giving it a quick dry. Using the diffuser in combination with your products will give you lift and curl definition. Once mostly dry, spritz in some of the Oway Sea Salt Spray for a lil texture at the end.

Fine and straight hair angels: use the Kevin Murphy Body Mass throughout the roots and mid ends of your damp locks for some natural volume. We recommend blasting it with the hairdryer with your head upside down to give you even more root lift. Once dry, dust in the Kevin Murphy Powder Puff to fluff up the roots, and spray some Bedroom Hair into the ends for a lil’ extra movement and hold.
